World Leaders' Spouses Treated to Exclusive Cultural Experience during G20 Summit in Delhi

The spouses of some world leaders attending the G20 summit enjoyed a specially curated cultural experience. They had lunch at Jaipur House followed by a guided tour of an exhibition showcasing India's rich cultural artifacts at National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA).

New Delhi, the bustling capital of India, played host to a unique cultural experience for the spouses of world leaders attending the G20 Summit on September 9. The event took place at Jaipur House and was followed by an enlightening tour of an exhibition showcasing culturally-rich artefacts at NGMA (National Gallery of Modern Art), according to official sources.

The attendees were treated to a special lunch that featured millet-based dishes, providing them with a taste of traditional Indian cuisine. They also had the opportunity to sample some street food, further immersing themselves in local flavours and gastronomic traditions. Among those present were first ladies from Turkiye, Japan, UK, Australia and Mauritius.

Post-lunch saw these distinguished visitors being given a guided tour through an exhibition hosted at the NGMA. This exhibition titled 'Roots and Routes', which opened on the same day as their visit was specially curated for them. It explores India's civilisational heritage, ethos and inter-connectedness – offering insights into its rich history and diverse culture.

The NGMA falls under the Union Ministry of Culture’s purview and boasts an impressive collection comprising paintings, sculptures and photographs – each piece telling its own story about India’s artistic journey over centuries.

This gallery has historical significance too; it was inaugurated by S Radhakrishnan who served as vice-president then in 1954 as per records from Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav website.

A Culmination Event Amidst G20 Summit

The special lunch along with the NGMA exhibition were not standalone events but organised on sidelines of two-day long G20 Summit which commenced on Saturday itself. The summit is being held at the newly-built international convention and exhibition centre -- Bharat Mandapam – located at Pragati.

This cultural exposure for the spouses of world leaders is a testament to India's commitment to showcasing its rich heritage on global platforms. It also underscores the importance of cultural exchange in fostering understanding and cooperation among nations, thereby enhancing diplomatic relations.

In conclusion, this event was not just about sharing food and art but it was an opportunity to share stories, experiences and perspectives. It was a chance for these dignitaries from different parts of the world to get a glimpse into India’s vibrant culture and history through its cuisine and art. And perhaps most importantly, it served as a reminder that despite our diverse backgrounds, we are all connected by shared human experiences - something that transcends borders and politics.
