G20 Summit: US President Doesn't Intend To Meet Chinese Premier

While addressing the media, Jake Sullivan, National Security Advisor to President Biden, informed reporters on the summit agenda after the President left Washington on the trip, which will also take him to Vietnam.

"We don't have a plan for the president to engage with the Chinese premier at this time," Sullivan said.

Early this week, Biden said he hoped that Chinese President Xi Jinping would grace the occasion in India.

"I hope he attends," Biden told reporters on Thursday (August 31) in Washington while US officials played down the possibility of a Biden-Xi meeting in New Delhi. The officials suggested that it is more likely that the two leaders would meet at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation or Apec conference which is due to be held in San Francisco in the month of November.

After the Chinese President and Russian President Vladimir gave G20 a skip, President Biden tried to seize their absence to inform the nations that that they have tried to influence.

It has been reported that Xi's decision to skip the G20 Summit may be linked to China's rivalry with India. Some media reports also claimed that although absence of Chinese President Xi Jinping's absence at the G20 summit was informed, the reason is not known.
