G20 Summit Highlights: Delhi's G20 Summit Concludes, India Passes Presidency Baton To Brazil
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Joe Biden and other top leaders of the world's wealthiest economies began deliberations on pressing global challenges at the G20 Summit on Saturday under the shadow of the Ukraine war that has significantly fragmented the global geopolitical order.
Hosting the big-ticket summit for the first time, India is looking at producing tangible results in areas of financing for climate transition, digital public infrastructure, accelerated implementation of sustainable development goals, framework for cryptocurrency and reform of the international financial institutions.
Majority of priorities of the Indian G20 presidency were aimed at benefiting the Global South or the developing countries. Indian negotiators involved in drafting the leaders' declaration are confident that most of New Delhi's proposals would be endorsed by the top leadership of the grouping.

The declaration couldn’t have been better for Russia, Niti Aayog's ex-VC Arvind Panagriya said.Most of the complaints are coming the western side stating that the declaration was watered down on the war, he added. "I speculate that US mediated with the European countries for this declaration."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, expressed satisfaction over the growing trade between India and Mercosur. Both leaders agreed to work together for the expansion of India-Mercosur PTA during Brazil’s Mercosur Presidency, to leverage the full potential of this economic partnership.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, reaffirmed their commitment to the comprehensive reform of the Security Council including its expansion in the permanent and non-permanent categories, with increased representation of developing countries.

We talked about ways to boost trade and cooperation in agriculture, technology, and more. I also conveyed my best wishes for Brazil’s upcoming G20 Presidency."

On consensus over New Delhi G20 Leaders' Summit Declaration, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says, "When they agreed to that, perhaps it was the voice of their conscience. Speaking frankly, we didn't expect that...Let me underline that we cannot isolate that paragraph (on Ukraine and Russia) from the rest of the work on the declaration. The main content of the declaration this year is all about the awakening of the Global South and the consolidation of the Global South that is truly willing for the G20 to work for its main goals...
Japanese PM Fumio Kishida says, "On Russia's aggression on Ukraine, throughout the meetings, Japan has pressed for the immediate withdrawal of Russian troops. The realisation of just & durable peace in Ukraine. We underscored our position that Russia's nuclear threat let alone its use of nuclear weapons is absolutely unacceptable. I also highlighted the importance of assistance from the global community to vulnerable populations under conflict..."
Japanese PM Fumio Kishida says "Under the leadership of India as this year's chair, we were able to agree on the G20 Leaders' declaration which is a truly meaningful achievement. Japan has been engaged in the negotiations with the intent to pass on the outcome of the G7 to the G20 and we were able to hand over to the G20 points that were confirmed at the Hiroshima Summit. I look forward to working with other leaders to follow up on the outcomes delivered by the G7 and G20..."
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says "...I think that a healthy solution has been found in the declaration regarding the need to strive for a clear and equitable balance of interest. It is one of the decent purposes and we are already on track. In our turn, we will continue strengthening these positive trends including during Brazil's presidency next year and in 2025 during South Africa's presidency. While closing today's session, PM Modi said that he would convene another G20 Summit via video conferencing in late November. It will be another opportunity for us to review the implementation of the agreements that we have reached today..."

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says "...The West also had long ago promised even 100 billion US dollars per year to prepare economists to counter the negative consequences of climate change, but nothing on that has been done. The declaration also mentions the tasks that need to be done in accordance with the long-standing promises in order to ensure a balance of interest in the global economy..."

President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva says, "...We are living in a world where wealth is more concentrated in which millions of human beings still go hungry, where sustainable development is always threatened, in which government institutions still reflect the reality of middle of the last century.
