From TVs To Smartwatches: Rajya Sabha MPs To Get New Gadgets Under This Scheme
Members of the Rajya Sabha in New Delhi are poised to enhance their legislative and digital capabilities with new smart technology, including smart TVs and projectors, under a revamped reimbursement policy. This is part of the 'Scheme of Financial Entitlement of Members ofya Sabha for Computer Equipment,' which aims to equip parliamentarians with the necessary tools for improved performance in their duties. The policy update follows a meeting on May 23 where the inclusion of advanced gadgets was sanctioned.
Under the updated scheme, MPs are entitled to financial compensation for the purchase of certain technological equipment, depending on their tenure. Those serving more than three years can claim up to Rs 2,00,000, while those with a remaining term of three years or less from a by-election can claim Rs 1,50,000. An additional sum of Rs 1,00,000 is accessible after three years in office, with at least six months left in their term. This initiative ensures MPs can submit purchase receipts for reimbursement, promoting efficiency and secure digital operations.

The scheme, which is an extension of The Provision of Computer Equipment (Members of Rajya Sabha and Officers) Rules, 2008, now accommodates a broader spectrum of devices. Besides the existing entitlements such as desktop computers, laptops, and smartphones, the scheme now includes smartwatches, tablets with keyboards, smart speakers, and more. These additions are intended to facilitate better research, administration, and communication for the MPs.
What is particularly noteworthy is the expanded list of gadgets now covered by the scheme. With the integration of smart TVs, smart displays, and portable projectors, MPs can leverage these tools for enhanced presentations and collaborative efforts. Additionally, the inclusion of wearables and smart speakers aims to boost productivity and accessibility for MPs, accommodating their need for mobility in work.
