Another Islamic State operative from Kerala has died in Syria. Abdul Manaf, a resident of Valapattanam, Kannur district, Kerala died while fighting in Syria, the police have confirmed.

He died in November, the police said. Deputy Superintendent of Police, P Sadanandan said that the message about his death was relayed to his family by Abdul Khayyum another fighter who had joined the ISIS in Syria.

Manaf was a worker of the SDPF which is the political arm of the Popular Front of India. He was an accused in 2009 murder of a CPM worker.

He had travelled to Syria on a fake passport. He had got in touch with another operative Vallluva Shahjahan in Turkey before making his way into Syria. Shahjahan it may be recalled was deported and later arrested by the Delhi police.

The police say that Manaf had travelled to Syria three years back. He had been an active member of the ISIS since 2014, the police also say.
