From OTP Scams To LPG Rates: Key Rule Changes Effective December 2024
As December 2024 approaches, several significant regulatory changes are set to take effect. These updates will influence various aspects of daily life, including telecommunications, travel fees, and credit card policies. The following is a comprehensive overview of the most impactful changes that will be implemented starting December 1.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has introduced a new rule to tackle the issue of fraudulent OTPs used in scams. By November 30, 2024, telecom providers must implement message traceability. This measure aims to enhance security and protect consumers from financial fraud. Non-compliance could lead to delays or disruptions in OTP services, affecting banking and digital transactions.

Travel Fee Adjustments
Indian travellers heading to the Maldives will face increased departure fees. Economy class passengers will see their fees rise from $30 (₹2,532) to $50 (₹4,220). Business class travellers will pay $120 (₹10,129), up from $60. First-class passengers' fees will increase to $240 (₹20,257). Private jet travellers face the steepest hike, with fees jumping from $120 (₹10,129) to $480 (₹40,515).
Oil Marketing Companies (OMC) are set to adjust LPG prices on December 1 as part of their monthly review. While domestic cylinder prices remained unchanged last month, commercial LPG cylinders saw a ₹48 increase in October. The adjustments for December have yet to be announced but are anticipated soon.
Credit Card Policy Changes
Several banks plan to revise their credit card benefits and rewards systems starting December 1. YES Bank will impose limits on redeeming rewards for flights and hotels. HDFC Bank's Regalia cardholders must spend Rs 1 lakh per quarter for complimentary lounge access. SBI and Axis Bank are updating their reward points structure and credit card fees in line with industry trends.
These regulatory changes reflect ongoing efforts to enhance consumer protection and align with global standards. As these updates come into effect, individuals should stay informed about how they may impact personal finances and travel plans.
