French Cyclists Stranded In Bareilly On Their Way To Nepal After Google Maps Misleads Them
Two French tourists, Brian Jacques Gilbert and Sebastian Francois Gabriel, embarked on a cycling journey from Delhi to Kathmandu.
However, they lost their way near Churaili Dam, according to police reports on Friday. The tourists had arrived in Delhi from France by flight on January 7 and planned to reach Kathmandu via Tanakpur from Pilibhit.

Villagers noticed the cyclists on a deserted road at 11 pm on Thursday. Concerned for their safety, they escorted them to the Churaili police outpost.
The language barrier made communication difficult, but the villagers wanted to prevent any potential incidents involving the foreigners.
Police Assistance and Route Guidance
At the police outpost, officers ensured the tourists were safe for the night. They arranged for them to stay at the house of the village Pradhan.
On Friday morning, police provided them with directions to continue their journey safely. Baheri Circle Officer Arun Kumar Singh explained that Google Maps had misled them in the dark, suggesting a shortcut through Baheri in Bareilly.
Senior Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya was informed about the situation. He personally spoke with the French tourists and instructed local police to assist them in reaching their intended destination.
The tourists were grateful for the guidance and hospitality they received during their unexpected detour.
