Free ambulance service for pregnant women from Jan 18: CMO

Gorakhpur (UP), Jan 4: A free of cost ambulance service dedicated to pregnant women will be started from January 18 in the district, Chief Medical Officer said here today.

The special vehicle will have two trained women staff to tackle any emergency while taking pregnant women to health centres. The ambulance will also have delivery facilities inside the van, CMO R P Gupta said.

In the first phase, District Women's Hospital and community health centres of Gorakhpur will be covered and 15 ambulances will be provided for the purpose. The free-of-cost service will be available at people's doorsteps after they dial 102, CMO said.

The aim of ambulance service was to benefit maximum number of pregnant women. The service will also include bringing back the mother and the newborn to home after the delivery, CMO added.
