Ministry of External Affairs on Friday said the ministry is 'frankly' not aware of Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam accused Nirav Modi's location who fled the country on January 1st, 2018. He India just days before the CBI could file an FIR against him in connection with a Rs. 11,300 crore PNB scam.
MEA spokesperson, Raveesh Kumar said, "I can say with confidence that this (Nirav Modi) gentleman is not in touch with any of our officials & frankly at this stage we are not aware of his location."
He said, " after his (Nirav Modi) passport is revoked he cannot leave the place wherever he is now". (Woh jis country mein hain wahi rahenge, passport suspend hone ke baad woh kahi nahi ja sakte).
The external affairs ministry suspended with immediate effect the passports of diamantaire Nirav Modi and his business partner Mehul Choksi for four weeks. The ministry gave them one week to respond why their passports should not be revoked.
"If they fail to respond within the stipulated time it will be assumed that they have no response to offer and the MEA will go ahead with the revocation," the ministry said in a statement.
Nirav Mod had left India just days before the CBI could file an FIR against him in connection with a Rs. 11,300 crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam. According to a report by NDTV, Nirav is staying at an apartment at JW Marriott Essex House New York's Manhattan.
