Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's Memorial To Be Built At This Place

The Centre is in the process of selecting a location for a memorial dedicated to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Discussions are ongoing with Singh's family regarding potential sites. Reports suggest that the 'Rashtriya Smriti Sthal', situated between Jawaharlal Nehru and Sanjay Gandhi's memorials, or an area near Chaudhary Charan Singh's memorial, are being considered.

According to media reports, these three locations are under consideration for the memorial site. The final decision will hinge on the family's consent. Additionally, there is speculation that Singh might be posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna soon.

Memorial Trust Formation

On December 27, Home Minister Amit Shah informed Congress leaders about plans to establish a trust for constructing Singh's memorial. This trust may include government ministers, officials, and representatives from both Congress and Singh's family.

Central Public Works Department (CPWD) officials have already inspected areas around Sanjay Gandhi's memorial. They have identified several potential spots where the new memorial could be built, as reported by PTI.

Controversy Over Last Rites

The Congress party criticised the government for conducting Singh's last rites at Nigambodh Ghat. This decision led to a heated exchange between the BJP and Congress over both the cremation process and plans for a memorial.

Manmohan Singh, known as the architect of India's economic reforms, passed away on December 26 at 92 due to age-related health issues. His contributions to India's economic landscape remain significant and widely acknowledged.
