Former Indian cricketer Sreesanth may contest Kerala polls as BJP candidate

Kerala, March 22: Former Indian cricketer S Sreesanth has kept the media and the general public still guessing over joining Kerala assembly fray as a BJP candidate.

After reports of Sreesanth contesting assembly elections was out, he made a statement to the press today - "Wait for a day, you will know from where I contest."

According to sources, the top brass of the BJP has contacted Sreesanth hoping he would agree to the fresh offer of the BJP that is toiling hard to gain at least single seat in the upcoming assembly elections.

It is learnt that Sreesanth has expressed willingness to contest elections but deliberations on constituency to contest, at this juncture, is underway.

There are two constituencies doing the rounds at this moment. Thrippunithura and Ernakulam are potential grounds on the discussion. The sources from Kerala indicate that these two constituencies has good prospects for Sreesanth as celebrity card has fair share of play among the electorate.

It is reported that Sreesanth has discussed the offer put across by the BJP with the members of the family to go ahead. A source told OneIndia that competing at Thrippunithura has more benefits to the former cricketer rather contesting from Ernakulam.

In Thrippunithura he would be pitted against a Excise Minister K Babu of the Congress who is facing allegations of corruption. Moreover, the city is metro-like demography and celebrity card is a good political move by the BJP.

Though in Thrippunithura he may loose the competition, cricketer would surely render tough fight, sources added.
