Foreign Secy Viram Misri Says India, Pakistan Enacted Ceasefire From 5 PM Today, Islamabad Took Initiative

India and Pakistan have both agreed to ceasefire after days of escalation and cross-border skirmishes.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri today in a media briefing stated that Pakistan had contacted India's Director General of Military Operations, during which both parties agreed to cease all military activity on land, at sea, and in the air from 5pm onwards.

"Pakistan contacted the Indian Directors General of Military Operations at 15:35 hours earlier today. It was mutually agreed that both sides would halt all firing and military operations on land, at sea, and in the air with effect from 1700 hours IST," said Misri.

He confirmed that instructions had been issued by both sides to ensure the implementation of this understanding. He also noted that the Directors General of Military Operations would reconvene for another discussion on May 12 at 1200 hours.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced that following an extended round of US-mediated discussions, India and Pakistan had reached an agreement for a full and immediate ceasefire.

He commended both nations for employing "common sense and intelligence" to resolve the conflict.

Posting on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote: "After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

Tensions between the two nations had surged after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 people, most of whom were tourists.

In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, conducting precision air strikes on terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) believed to have been used to plan and launch attacks on Indian soil.

Targets included terror headquarters of the proscribed groups Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. According to officials, the Indian Air Force conducted night-time raids on nine key sites.

Among the specific locations struck were Markaz Subhan Allah in Bahawalpur, Sarjal in Tehra Kalan, Markaz Abbas in Kotli, and the Syedna Bilal camp in Muzaffarabad, all reportedly linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Additional targets included Markaz Taiba in Murdike, Markaz Ahle Hadith in Barnala, and the Shwawai Nalla camp in Muzaffarabad, all associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba.
