For every two Naxalites there was 1 human shield in Chhattisgarh attack
They had planned this attack well in advance and were aware of the movement of the CRPF jawans.
It was an extremely difficult operation for the CRPF jawans who fought Naxalites in Chhattisgarh on Monday. Twenty-five jawans made the supreme sacrifice while fighting over 300 Naxals at Sukma district. The CRPF team reached the spot and were guarding the ongoing road work taking place when they came under fire. It was very difficult to immediately open fire as the Naxals were standing there with villagers being used as human shields.

At first, there was distraction fire by the Naxals. When gun shots were heard, the entire battalion turned towards it. However, the Naxals opened fire from the other side. Most of them were in civilian clothing and this made it hard for the jawans to determine whether they were villagers or the Naxals.
The Naxals used AK-47s, SLRs and INSAS rifles to carry out the attack. There were almost 300 of them. Investigations now reveal that the big number was because the Naxals were using several villagers as human shields.
Officials say that the attack was carried out by the military battalion of the Naxals. During the attack, commanders Situ, Nagesh and Sonu three dreaded Naxals were also present.
The Naxals from the start were in an advantageous position. They had planned this attack well in advance and were aware of the movement of the CRPF jawans. The southern flank came under fire. Some of the Naxals came from behind with human shields, as a result of which, the south and north flank could not come together and join each other.
Moreover the jawans had to distinguish before villagers and the Naxals which again acted as a disadvantage for the CRPF personnel.
