Folk singer Kovan among over 50 held for JNU protest
Chennai, Feb 18: Folk singer Kovan and over 50 others were detained by the police here today for protesting against the arrest of JNU students' union leader Kanhaiya Kumar on the charge of sedition.
Kovan, who had earlier been arrested by the state government on similar charges, and 57 others, were held for protesting near the Shastri Bhavan, housing central government offices, police said.

The protestors, who raised slogans against the BJP-led government at Centre, demanded the release of Kumar, they said. Kovan was arrested last year under sedition for allegedly insulting Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in a song in his campaign against the state government's liquor policy.
He was later granted bail by the sessions court in November.
