Fodder Scam: Lalu lands in jail; wife, cricketer son compete for power

Prasad Yasdav has been sent to Ranchi jail on Monday, Sept 30. A CBI court found Lalu guilty in the infamous Fodder scam case. Quantum of punishment will be declared on Oct 3.

Hours after the court verdict on Monday, speculations over Lalu's successor in the party started haunting the party leaders. However, party sources informed that Lalu apparently had briefed other RJD leaders about the future course of action apprehending a situation like this.

Now, it seems that Lalu's wife and former Bihar CM Rabri Devi and his elder son Tejashwi Yadav are competing with each other for the post of President of RJD. While some say that Rabri Devi could be declared the RJD president, other are expecting RJD leaders to field Tejashwi for the post.

Lalu's eldest son Tejashwi, a cricketer, might be projected as the party face ahead of the Lok Sabha election which is expected to be held in 2014.

Meanwhile, an alert had been sounded across Bihar prior to the announcement of the verdict. A police official was quoted as saying, "The police headquarters has alerted all the superintendents of police and asked them to keep a close watch after the court verdict on Lalu Prasad in the fodder scam case."

The CBI court on MOnday gave out the verdict and also gave the details of the conviction. Yadav is accused of fraudulent reimbursements from the treasury of the Bihar state. He may face minimum three years to a maximum of seven in prison.

He was earlier also sent to the prison in the same case and that time his wife Rabri Devi took charge of the CM post. Lalu is likely to face disqualification as a member of the Parliment.
