Flash Floods Devastate Himachal's Kangra District; 2 Dead, Several Missing
A sudden flash flood triggered by a cloudburst wreaked havoc in Khaneria village near Dharamshala, claiming at least two lives and leaving up to ten people missing. Emergency services, police teams, and district officials launched immediate rescue operations in the affected area of Khaniyara, where devastation unfolded rapidly.
According to local authorities, the flash flood occurred after a heavy downpour caused water levels in the Manuni Khad stream to surge unexpectedly, sweeping away several people-many of whom were reportedly working near a local power project.

Rescue Efforts Continue Amid Chaos
Rescue personnel worked tirelessly through difficult terrain and waterlogged conditions, managing to retrieve two bodies so far. Officials said that the full impact on residents and infrastructure is still being assessed, with the situation remaining fluid.
"The rescue operations are ongoing. Our teams are on the ground doing their best to locate the missing and ensure safety for all affected," said a spokesperson from the district administration.
Political Leaders Express Grief
BJP National President JP Nadda expressed deep sorrow over the incident, offering condolences to the families of those affected. In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Nadda wrote in Hindi:
"Received sad news of many workers being swept away due to a sudden rise in water flow in Manuni Khad of Khaniyara. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families... Every BJP worker is committed to helping the people of Devbhoomi in this hour of crisis."
Alerts Issued Across the Region
Following the Kangra incident, officials in Mandi district issued alerts after a cloudburst in Kullu's Sainj Valley. Authorities warned of potential flooding due to water being released from the Panhoh dam into the Beas River and advised both tourists and residents to stay away from the riverbanks.
