The Tricolour was hoisted at the Attari border in March this year. However it got damaged due to strong wind. The flag was taken off in May and it was decided not to unfurl the same until a permanent solution was found.

Pakistan on the other hand began work on its flag project. It decided to hoist a 400 feet high flag on its side of the border. Pakistan had decided to hoist the flag on August 14 which is its independence day.

India however decided to beat Pakistan and went ahead and hoisted the Tricolour a day before on Sunday. However this flag will not be a permanent feature and it would unfurl till August 16. Until a permanent solution is found, the flag will be hoisted only on important occasions. The administration has now reduced the length and breadth of the flag from 120X80 ft to 90X60 ft.
