Five times increase in heinous crimes in Delhi in 15 years
New Delhi, Aug 14: Every day at least 10 people fell victim to heinous crimes like murder, robbery and kidnapping, in the national capital on an average between 2001 and 2015, according to Delhi Police data.
The cases of robbery witnessed an increase of almost 12 times during this period, with 624 cases reported in 2001 and 7407 in 2015.

A total of 51,691 cases of heinous crimes were filed in Delhi from 2001 to 2015 which included rape, dacoity, murder, and attempt to murder, robbery, riots and kidnapping for ransom, data show.
The number of heinous crimes jumped from 2316 in 2001 to 11,187 in 2015, a jump of almost five times. There was an increase of more than three times in the number of non-heinous crimes as well.
Non-heinous crimes, including snatching, hurt, burglary, motor vehicle and house theft, fatal and simple accidents and others, increased from 52,068 in 2001 to 1,80,190 in 2015.
