Five Police Personnel Killed in Trailer–Bolero Collision in Jharsuguda

A devastating road accident claimed the lives of five police personnel after a speeding trailer rammed into a police Bolero in Jharsuguda district of Odisha on February 22, 2026. The collision, which occurred at dawn, has triggered a detailed police investigation and renewed concerns over road safety for on-duty security teams.

According to officials, the trailer was coming from the opposite direction at high speed when it crashed head-on into the Bolero near the Jharsuguda Sadar Police Station. The impact was so severe that the police vehicle was mangled beyond recognition. Senior officers rushed to the scene, oversaw rescue operations, and began preliminary evidence collection. The trailer driver has been detained for questioning as part of the probe.

Injured Personnel in Critical Condition

Three other personnel - including two members of the Armed Police Reserve (APR) and a sergeant - sustained serious injuries in the crash. They were shifted to the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors said their condition remains critical. Medical teams are closely monitoring them and providing intensive care.

Identities of the Deceased

The personnel who lost their lives have been identified as APR staff members Kashiram Bhoi and Debadatta Sa, Drill Sub-Inspector Niranjan Kujur, APR Havildar Lingaraj Dhurua, and Home Guard Bhaktabandhu Mirdha. Officials described their deaths as a profound loss to the department, noting that they were reportedly on official duty at the time of the accident.

The tragedy has cast a pall of grief across the district. Residents and fellow officers have been paying tributes, remembering the personnel for their service and sacrifice. As investigators piece together the sequence of events through witness statements and physical evidence, the focus remains on ensuring accountability and supporting the injured officers, while the district mourns the loss of five of its own.
