Five crore LED bulbs distributed: Government
New Delhi, Jan 21: Five crore energy saving light emitting diode (LED) bulbs have been distributed as on Thursday under the Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP), an official statement said.
"Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) completed distribution of 5 crore LED bulbs under the Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP) on Thursday morning", the union power ministry said here.

"Congratulations to @EESL_India for distributing 5 crore LED bulbs. They will nearly double this no. in next 2 months," Power Minister Piyush Goyal said in a tweet.
According to state-run EESL, it will be able to distribute 7 crore LED bulbs by end of February, and between 9-10 crore by March, 2016.
"Power bills have reduced by Rs.2,500 crore through the distributed bulbs, savings will go up to Rs.45,000 crore annually," Goyal said in another tweet.
"Almost 15,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide is not being emitted daily due to five crore LED bulbs," he said.
"No better way to save money and save the environment," he added in another tweet.
The power ministry said DELP aims to replace all the 77 crore incandescent bulbs sold in the country by LEDs.
"This will result in reduction of 20,000 MW load, energy savings of 100 billion KWh and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions savings of 80 million tons every year," the statement said.
"The annual saving in electricity bills of consumers will be Rs.40,000 crore," it added.
