Satark Park Inaugurated in Pune to Honour Military Intelligence Martyrs

The Satark Park, inaugurated in Pune, Maharashtra, is the nation's first memorial dedicated to military intelligence operatives. This park aims to highlight the bravery of these often-overlooked heroes. Developed by Roadways Solutions India Infra Ltd (RSIIL) in collaboration with the Military Intelligence Training School and Depot (MINTSD), it features 40 busts of personnel who gave their lives in service.

Pune Opens Park for Military Intelligence Martyrs

Each bust at the park is accompanied by a brief description of the individual's heroism. The park is located in the Wanwadi area of Pune Cantonment and draws inspiration from the Corps of Military Intelligence's motto, "Sada Satark," meaning "always alert." Lieutenant General Pradeep Kumar Chahal, Colonel Commandant of the Intelligence Corps and Commandant of MINTSD, inaugurated the park.

Honouring Unsung Heroes

The inauguration was attended by families of the fallen heroes. The park includes a wall featuring the Intelligence Corps song and an abstract sculpture symbolising Bharat Mata, representing the unseen nature of their work. The busts commemorate martyrs from 1962 to 2020, such as Brig RD Mehta, Nk Mehtab Singh (1962), and Sub Rakesh Kumar (2020).

Most of these military intelligence personnel lost their lives while serving in Jammu & Kashmir and were posthumously honoured with military awards. Officials noted that this initiative was proposed by RSIIL to honour Intelligence Corps members who have sacrificed since 1962.

Inspiration for Future Generations

Lt Gen Chahal expressed that stories of bravery and sacrifice, once confined to books, will now be accessible to the public. "The public and future generations can draw inspiration from these stories," he stated. He also shared personal memories, noting that some of these heroes were his colleagues and instructors.

Lt Col Leena Bajaj, whose husband Capt Jitesh Bhutani died in 2003 during a counter-insurgency operation, was moved by the park's dedication. She remarked that it ensures these heroes are no longer unsung. "The park speaks for itself," she said, adding that it will inspire future generations to contribute to India's history.

Project Development and Maintenance

Amit Gadhoke, managing director of RSIIL, highlighted his firm's long-standing association with the Indian Army. Their involvement in various functions inspired them to create this park. "We undertook this project with great attention to detail," Gadhoke said, aiming to bring these stories to light.

BK Singh, director at RSIIL, mentioned that thorough research was conducted for this project. Every aspect of the park's design, including bust details and inscriptions, was carefully considered. Singh added that RSIIL would be responsible for maintaining the park's upkeep.

This initiative ensures that the sacrifices made by military intelligence operatives are recognised and remembered by future generations. It serves as a testament to their bravery and dedication to their country.
