First Meeting Since Pahalgam Attack: Omar Abdullah Briefs PM Modi on J&K Situation
On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Omar Abdullah, the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, met for the first time since the April 22 deadly terror attack in Pahalgam. The encounter, which lasted roughly 30 minutes, was held in the prime minister's official house, according to officials.
In their conversation, Abdullah and Modi discussed the current state of affairs in Jammu and Kashmir, namely the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, most of them tourists. Tensions between India and Pakistan have been greatly increased by the incident, which was one of the bloodiest in the area in recent years.

Following the attack, the Indian government responded to Pakistan's ongoing support for cross-border terrorism by enacting a number of strict restrictions against the country. The suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, the closing of the Integrated Check Post at Attari, and the reduction of personnel at the High Commissions of both countries were some of the most noteworthy measures.
Furthermore, India ordered Pakistani nationals to leave the country by April 30 and revoked any visa categories granted to them. Additionally, all Pakistani airline flights are no longer allowed to enter Indian airspace.
At a high-level security meeting on April 29, Prime Minister Modi spoke about the country's determination to combat terrorism and declared that the Indian military has been given complete operational autonomy to decide how to respond to the Pahalgam incident. According to reports, Modi declared, "It is our national resolve to deliver a crushing blow to terrorism." He also underlined that the military would have total control over the retaliatory action's mode, targets, and timing.
The political atmosphere in the Valley is still hot and security is still tight, so Abdullah and Modi's meeting comes at a crucial moment.
