Fire Breaks Out At Mahakumbh At Sector18; 20-22 Tents Burnt, No Casualties

A fire breaks out in Sector 18, Shankaracharya Marg of Maha Kumbh Mela Kshetra in Prayagraj on Friday, as per news agency ANI. However, there are no casualties or injuries.

"...The fire has been brought under control. There has been no loss of lives. The reason behind the fire is under investigation...,"ANI quoted SP city Sarvesh Kumar Mishra as saying.

Inspector Yogesh Chaturvedi of Khak Chowk police station said that the fire broke out at a camp near Tulsi Chauraha on Old GT Road. He added, "However, firefighters have managed to bring the blaze largely under control."

He claimed that the officials from the fire department are on the spot to oversee the operation.

CFO Pramod Sharma said that 20-22 tents have been burnt in the incident. He noted, "There has been no loss of lives or burn injuries"

The incident comes a week after a stampede that killed 30 and left 60 injured in the ongoing Mahakumbh which began on January 13. Last month, a cylinder blast incident was reported in Sector 19 where 18 tents were destroyed due to fire.

The curtains to the 45-day Mahakumbh will be dropped on February 26.
