FIR lodged against fake FB profile of Union Minister

New Delhi, Nov 5: Delhi Police has registered a case in connection with a fake Facebook profile of Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan after he filed a complaint.

An FIR under section 66A IT Act was registered at the Cyber Cell of the Delhi Police's Economic Offence Wing (EOW) against an unidentified person after the minister sent a written complaint to police commissioner BS Bassi. As per the complaint, the minister came to know about the fake profile on the social networking site through an acquaintance.

"Upon establishing Facebook contact, the person offers various commercial services at a price. The minister has taken strong exception to this criminal activity by some unscrupulous element and has desired that the matter be investigated on priority and the responsible person be brought to justice," the complaint said. "We have registered an FIR on October 22 in this regard. We are investigating the case," said a senior police officer.
