Finance portfolio and Sasikala's ouster: Panneerselvam's demands for merger

Both factions have put their demands forward and a committee has been formed to discuss the same

The late night meeting at Tamil Nadu minister Tangamani's residence marked the beginning of uniting the AIADMK. While a committee has been formed to hold talks with the O Panneerselvam faction, talks at various levels have been taking place for weeks now. Panneerselvam who reacted to the formation of the committee said that he was ready for talks if approached.

Sources suggest that both factions have put down their demand as pre-condition for talks to be held. Panneerselvam's camp has decided that Sasikala's ouster is their prime agenda. Meanwhile, demands to make Panneerselvam the chief of the party has also been made. While the OPS camp has made it clear that the Chief Minister's post is not of concern to them, Panneerselvam is likely to get the Finance portfolio.

Minister Jayakumar holds the Finance portfolio in the Edappadi Palanisami cabinet along with fisheries ministry. If the merger is successful, Panneerselvam will be given his original portfolio of finance. It may be noted that he was the finance minister in Jayalalithaa's cabinet. The merger is unlikely to affect Edappadi Palanisamy's Chief Minister post. Meanwhile, ministers met TTV Dinakaran to appraise him about Monday night's meeting.
