FASTags With Incomplete KYCs To Be Deactivated Post Jan 31: NHAI

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) on Monday announced that FASTags that have balance but owners have not completed the KYC with banks will be deactivated after January 31, 2024. According to the reports, the decision has been taken to enhance the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system and provide seamless movement at toll plazas. The authority has also taken the decision to promote 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' initiative and stop people from using the same FASTag for multiple vehicles.

"Only the latest FASTag account shall remain active as previous tags will be deactivated/blacklisted after 31st January 2024," the statement said.

For additional support or inquiries, users of FASTag can contact the toll plazas nearest to them or utilize the toll-free customer care number provided by their respective issuing banks.

The NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) has taken this step in response to recent instances of multiple FASTags being assigned to a single vehicle and the issuance of FASTags without proper KYC, a violation of RBI's regulations.

In addition, there have been cases where FASTags are intentionally not affixed to the vehicle's windscreen, causing unnecessary delays at toll plazas and inconveniencing other users of national highways.

With a penetration rate of approximately 98 percent and a user base exceeding 8 crore, FASTag has significantly transformed the electronic toll collection system in the country.

The announcement emphasizes that the 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' initiative aims to enhance toll operations' efficiency, ensuring smooth and convenient journeys for all users.
