FASTag Rules Change From August 1: Is Your FASTag 3 Years Old Or More?
New FASTag Rules: The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced new FASTag regulations effective from Thursday, August 1. These updated guidelines primarily address revised Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements, aiming to enhance the efficiency and security of the electronic toll collection system nationwide. FASTag, a popular pre-paid tag system, has significantly improved the toll experience by facilitating smooth, non-stop passage through toll plazas and reducing traffic congestion. To uphold the system's integrity and ensure seamless service, the NPCI now mandates that all FASTag users update their KYC information.
These new KYC rules are part of an ongoing initiative to streamline electronic toll collection and reduce the risk of fraud or misuse. By ensuring that user accounts are current and compliant with the latest standards, the NPCI seeks to deliver a more secure and efficient toll experience. Users who fail to meet the updated KYC requirements may encounter issues at toll plazas, such as delays or the inability to use their FASTag. To avoid such disruptions, the NPCI urges users to promptly update their accounts in line with the new guidelines.

Key Changes from August 1:
KYC Updates: Users should check the issuance date of their FASTag. Accounts older than five years will become invalid, necessitating a replacement from the issuing authority.
Linking Vehicle Details: Vehicle registration and chassis numbers must be linked to the FASTag.
New Vehicle Registration: New vehicle owners must update their FASTag with the vehicle's registration number within 90 days of purchase.
Photo Upload Requirement: Providers must upload clear photographs of the vehicle, including views of the front, side, and a close-up of the FASTag.
Mobile Number Linking: Each FASTag must be linked to the owner's mobile number to improve communication and ensure users receive timely updates.
FASTag users are advised to consult their issuing banks or digital wallet providers for specific instructions on completing the updated KYC process. Timely compliance is essential for continued convenience in toll payments and to prevent any disruptions in travel plans.
