NC President Farooq Abdullah Champions G20 Forum over UN, Cites Rotational Meetings as Advantage

Farooq Abdullah, National Conference president, praises the G20 forum's approach of hosting rotational meetings in member countries. He views it as a more effective platform than the United Nations for discussing and resolving issues.

The G20 forum, a gathering of government and central bank representatives from 20 major economies, is superior to the United Nations in terms of addressing and finding solutions for pressing issues, according to National Conference President Farooq Abdullah. Speaking at a party function in Srinagar on Friday, he emphasized that the annual G20 Summit meetings take place in each member country on a rotational basis.

G20: A More Effective Forum

G20 Summit

"G20 meeting is a normal process. It rotates between the 20 countries. It is an excellent platform where these nations come together to discuss their problems and seek solutions," Abdullah told reporters present at the event. He further argued that this format offers more focused discussions compared to the UN's broader approach involving numerous countries.

Remembering Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah

The occasion also saw Farooq Abdullah along with his son Omar Abdullah - who serves as vice president of the National Conference - paying homage to NC founder Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah on his 41st death anniversary.

Implications for India Hosting G20

In response to questions about what it means for India hosting such an important global summit, Mr. Abdullah reiterated that these meetings occur in every member nation based on rotation. "Did the G20 not take place in other countries? It will happen in Brazil next year, then rotate again," he pointed out.

Awaiting Invitation Confirmation

However, when asked if he had received an invitation for dinner associated with such high-level international gatherings, no clear answer was provided by him during this interaction with media personnel.

In conclusion, while acknowledging the importance of international forums like UN due its inclusivity of all nations irrespective of their economic status or power rankings globally; Farooq Abdullah's statement underscores how smaller but powerful gatherings like G20 can have a more significant impact in resolving issues. Such forums allow for focused discussions and quicker decision-making processes, thereby potentially leading to more effective solutions. As India prepares to host such an important event, it is indeed a moment of pride but also one that comes with the responsibility of upholding the essence and objectives of this forum.
