Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi said they would look into the matter and do whatever needs to be done, adding that they have committed a report to the home ministry.

A number of politicians converged at the village as the body of the deceased farmer arrived at his native village.

According to officials, the body was taken to Rajgarh in Alwar district, 30 km from his native village on Wednesday night.

Due to his niece's wedding, his body was brought to the village only on Thursday morning.

Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot and PCC President Sachin Pilot were among those present at the cremation.

"It is a very tragic incident and we are here to offer whatever support we can to the family. Farmers are distraught and feeling helpless.... There has been a system failure," Pilot said.

Gehlot said the government was not taking the issue seriously and demanded a package for the farmers.

The village mourned the death of Singh, the 41-year-old father of three, who committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in public view in a rally on Wednesday in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
