A Facebook group, 'Mangalore Muslims' that had earlier targetted singer Suhana for singing Hindu devotional songs is once again accused of threatening the BJP leader.

Speaking to the media, Uchil said that the group threatened him after his meet with Hindu seer Vishvesha Tirtha swami of Adhokshaja Pejavar Math. "The Facebook group posted derogatory comments about me and an attempt to deem me non-Muslim was made. Others supporting the groups have been issuing threats to me. I am being judged by individuals taking refuge in the anonymity that social media offers them and not by clerics," Uchil said.

Uchil also accused the police of refusing to register a first information report in this regard. "I have filed a complaint but the police tell me that they would need the court's permission to register a FIR. I seek justice as a common man. I do not want to involve my party in the matter," Uchil said.

The BJP leader also claimed that people were abusing him over WhatsApp through messages and voice calls, were spreading obnoxious voice clips but police were not able to locate them based on their phone numbers and deemed it 'strange'. "I have not converted into a Hindu but I am not a bad Muslim either," he told the media.
