Families Report Missing Jewellery From Hathras Stampede Victims
Eight days after a tragic stampede in Hathras claimed at least 121 lives, new revelations have emerged. Many women who attended the religious gathering wore mangalsutras and other jewellery. However, when their bodies were recovered, these items were missing, according to an Amar Ujaala report.
The families of the victims expressed their dismay over the theft of jewellery from the deceased. They said such actions during the chaos had shattered their faith in humanity. The scene at the satsang site still bore signs of the tragedy. Water had stagnated in several areas, and remnants like slippers, clothes, and bags were scattered around.

Missing Jewellery Raises Questions
Relatives who visited the site to collect death certificates also searched for lost belongings. They found some items but noted that jewellery was missing from many bodies. This raised questions about who committed these acts and how they went unnoticed during the chaos.
Harikant, whose mother Asha Devi died in the stampede, shared his experience. He found her body at the hospital but noticed her mobile phone, earrings, and other belongings were gone. He did find her tiffin and medicines intact.
Scene of Tragedy Remains Unchanged
Brajesh from Patiyali in Kasganj also searched for his deceased mother's belongings but couldn't find her mangalsutra, nose ring, anklet, or bangles. The loss of these personal items added to the family's grief.
The site of the satsang still held traces of the horrifying event. Items left behind by attendees were now gathered near the stage where Bhole Baba had organised the gathering. The scene remained a stark reminder of the tragedy that unfolded there.
The families are seeking answers about how such thefts occurred amid the chaos. They hope those responsible will be identified and held accountable for their actions.
This incident has not only caused immense grief but also raised serious concerns about safety and security during large gatherings. The authorities need to address these issues to prevent such tragedies in future events.
