Fali Nariman declines committee membership of Lokpal Search committee

advocate, has refused to be a part of the Lokpal Search Committee. It was rather embarassing for the government to receive a letter from him saying that the Lokpal selection process was ludicrous and farcical.

Out of the posts advertised for the Lokpal Committee, four were judiciary and rest non-judiciary. The PM-led committee include the Lok Sabha Speaker, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Chief Justice of India or a judge of the apex court nominated by the Chief Justice and a renowned jurist, nominated by the President or any of the above-mentioned members.

The president can appoint the chairpersons and the members only after obtaining the recommendations of the selection committee.

The Lokpal and Lokayuta Act 2013, enables the establishment of a Lokpal for the Union and Lokayutas for the states to investigate allegations against public functionaries.
