Extra-Marital Affair With Colleague Proves Costly For Senior UP Cop, Gets Demoted To Constable

An Uttar Pradesh Police officer, Kripa Shankar Kannaujiya, who was about to be promoted to Deputy Superintendent, has been demoted to the rank of constable after being caught in a hotel room with a female colleague three years ago.

Officials stated that Kannaujiya has now been assigned to the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) in Gorakhpur.

The incident dates back to July 6, 2021, when Kannaujiya, then serving as Circle Officer (CO) in Unnao, requested leave for family reasons from the Unnao Superintendent of Police (SP). Contrary to his stated plans, he checked into a hotel near Kanpur with a female constable and turned off both his private and official phones.

Concerned when she couldn't reach him, his wife contacted the Unnao SP for assistance. The SP traced Kannaujiya's last known mobile activity to the hotel in Kanpur. A police team was dispatched, and they found Kannaujiya with the female constable in the hotel.

The Unnao police documented the incident with video evidence. Following the discovery, the then Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Lucknow Range recommended stringent action against Kannaujiya, leading to his demotion.
