Attempted Extortion Against JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna by Threatening False Abuse Case
In a recent development that has stirred the political landscape of Karnataka, a Janata Dal (Secular) worker along with his kin has been accused of attempting to extort money from MLC Suraj Revanna. The accusation comes with a twist, involving threats to falsely implicate Revanna in a case of sexual assault. The police have taken swift action, registering an FIR against the individuals involved based on a complaint filed by Suraj Revanna's close aide, Shivakumar.

The complaint lodged on Friday outlines a complex narrative where Chethan K S and his brother-in-law allegedly sought to leverage accusations of sexual misconduct for financial gain. In a counter-move, Chethan filed a police complaint against Suraj Revanna, accusing him of sexual assault. This accusation gains additional gravity considering Suraj Revanna's familial connections; he is the son of Holenarasipura MLA H D Revanna and the elder brother of former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, who is currently facing allegations of sexual assault against several women.
According to Shivakumar's statement to the police, Chethan had ingratiated himself within the Suraj Revanna Brigade, only to later demand money under the pretext of family expenses. Upon refusal, Chethan allegedly resorted to threats of legal action against Suraj Revanna. The initial demand was pegged at Rs 5 crore, which was subsequently lowered to Rs 2 crore.
The police have acted on Shivakumar's complaint, registering charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) against Chethan and his brother-in-law. This incident not only highlights the complexities within political circles but also raises questions about the misuse of serious allegations for personal vendettas.
The case has garnered significant attention due to the high-profile nature of the individuals involved and the serious allegations being traded. As investigations proceed, it remains to be seen how these accusations will unfold and what implications they will have for those involved.
