Explosion at AIADMK meet, 3 injured, minister escapes unhurt

Chennai, Feb 21: Three persons sustained injuries in an explosion at an AIADMK meet here on Saturday, which was attended by Tamil Nadu Social Welfare Minister V Valarmathi, police said.

The explosion took place after Valarmathi left the venue, police said. Three persons sustained injuries in the suspected fire cracker explosion and glass panels in buildings and cars close to the venue of the public meeting was shattered.

The material was suspected to be a locally made powerful cracker used during festivals, police said.

It was not known if the suspected cracker was burst by party cadres or others and if it had gone off accidentally or otherwise, police said.
