Exploring the North-Eastern specialties at Delhi's North East Calling

The North East Calling - an event organised by the Ministry of Development of North East Region (DoNER), is being held in the National Capital's India Gate lawns on September 9th and 10th to promote the art, culture, heritage, cuisine, handicrafts, business and tourism of North East India, and showcase the various activities and products of the region.

The event which also coincides with the 16th anniversary of the Ministry of DoNER saw several from the north east region to showcase their speciality in food, handicrafts, art, and music.

Oneindia attended Day 1 of the event and was left mesmerised by the vibrant culture, colourful tradition wear, intricate handicrafts and the delicious food that the event had to offer.

Many from the Delhi several tourists chose the event as their go-to destination on a Saturday, mostly to savour the North-eastern delicacies. From smoked pork of Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim to chicken curry served with rice - the north eastern style, to sweetened brown rice cakes, a Meghalaya specialty, the crowd enjoyed it all, with live music at intervals - which was performed by north-eastern bands.

According to PIB, Winners of these contests will be given awards during the Cultural evening on the closing day of the event.
