Exit Poll 2024: BJP-NC Cliffhanger In Jammu And Kashmir, Predicts Republic-Gulistan

The Republic-Gulistan Exit Polls for the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections has predicted both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National Conference (NC) are likely to secure 28 to 30 seats each in the 90-member Legislative Assembly. This indicates a tight race between these two major parties.

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) is expected to face challenges, with projections suggesting it will win between 5 to 7 seats. Meanwhile, the Indian National Congress (INC) is anticipated to secure only 3 to 6 seats, reflecting a decline in its influence in the region.

Additionally, the exit polls indicate that other parties and independent candidates may collectively secure between 8 to 16 seats. This diverse political spectrum could lead to a fragmented assembly, making it crucial for parties to form coalitions.

According to predictions from Gulistan News, an alliance between the Congress and the National Conference is likely to form the new government in the Union Territory.

  • National Conference (NC): 28-30 seats
  • Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP): 28-30 seats
  • Indian National Congress (INC): 3-6 seats
  • People's Democratic Party (PDP): 5-7 seats
  • Others: 5-9 seats

Vote Share

According to the Exit Poll predictions, the BJP is expected to achieve the highest vote share in the Jammu region, surpassing both the Congress and the National Conference.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is likely to win one seat in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. The Gulistan News pollster has given one seat to the AAP in the 90 members assembly of J&K.

On Friday, the National Conference (NC) dismissed rumors of a potential alliance with the BJP, amid speculation of backchannel discussions for government formation. Led by Farooq Abdullah, the party stated that it is not in communication with any political parties outside the constituents of the INDIA bloc.

"We cannot align with the BJP. The votes we received are against the BJP. The challenges they have posed for Muslims-bulldozing their shops, homes, mosques, and schools-lead us to believe there is no chance we would partner with them," Abdullah told PTI on Saturday afternoon.

This election marks the first time in ten years that voters in Jammu and Kashmir have gone to the polls, with elections conducted in three phases from September 18 to October 1. The vote counting is scheduled for October 8.
