Senior officials in the government confirmed to OneIndia that the news was wrong and there was no such move to stop the exchange of currency. Incorrect news said the official when asked.

On Thursday the government had reduced the one time swap of the old notes to Rs 2,000. There were reports of several persons adopting to illegal means to get their notes exchanged. Some persons had been depositing notes in others' bank accounts and this had become a matter of concern for the government.
We are finding ways to tackle the problem and even introduced the use of indelible ink, the officer noted.
