Ex-TCS Employee Alleges Assault by HR Over Severance Query

A former employee of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has alleged that he was physically assaulted by the Human Resources (HR) team after inquiring about severance pay. This claim, shared in a detailed Reddit post, has sparked widespread debate on workplace ethics. The post, titled "Got terminated by TCS, then assaulted by HR when I asked about severance - what should I do?", has gained significant attention on the subreddit 'r/IndianWorkplace'.

The individual recounted events from September 19 at TCS's Yamuna office in Noida. He stated that he was abruptly terminated and sought clarification on three points: the reasons for his termination, whether TCS would provide severance pay as announced in the media, and the separation process, including returning company property like a laptop.

Employee's Allegations

According to his account, emails and calls to HR went unanswered. "By 10:30 AM my access was blocked. So I went to the office in person around 4:30 PM," he explained. Upon arrival, an HR representative allegedly told him: "We won't reply. You are terminated. Fight wherever you want."

Feeling unsafe, he returned with his phone camera recording. He claimed another HR member instructed colleagues to "snatch his phone". "They physically restrained me. My right hand was twisted, I was in pain, and honestly, I felt humiliated," he wrote.

Legal Steps Taken

The employee further mentioned that police took him to Sector-168 police chowki where he filed a complaint and submitted video evidence. He noted that police requested HR's presence at the station but they refused to comply.

In his post, he expressed feeling trapped without severance or a formal response from TCS and asked for advice on escalating the issue through legal channels such as labour court or directly to court.

Some users recommended seeking employment outside traditional corporate roles with companies like Swiggy or Zomato while pursuing legal action against TCS.
