Ex-Rajya Sabha member commits suicide


Thhothukudi, Nov 12: In a tragic incident, ex-Rajya Sabha MP N Rajendran committed suicide inside his car in Kovilpatti on Wednesday evening. He and his car were found at a service road on NH7 by a passerby who found the car parked for a long time. His revolver was found lying beside him.

The people immediately informed Kovilpatti West Police who rushed to the spot and broke open the car window and sent the body to the Kovilpatti GH. According to the sources, he is survived by his wife, 2 daughters and a son. He had taken a sabbatical from active politics and was running a few family business.


Trouble started when one of his daughters was facing problem at her in-laws place, then there was loss in business due to his son. Apart from that, he was also suffering from prostrate problem.

Due to this, there was a lot of pressure at home for the past one week. However, interestingly, he had spoken to his assistant Ganesan at 5:20 pm just before his death and told him he was travelling alone in his car and just a few minutes later, he was found dead.

Ruling out any foul play, th epolice said that this was a clear case of suicide as the trigger was pulled at his right temple and it came out of his left.

The police have ruled out foul play and claim it to be a clear case of suicide. Speaking to Express, SP Ashwin Kotnis said that by investigating the bullet injury it can be concluded that it was a well-planned suicide. He pulled the trigger on his right temple and the bullet came out from the left, said the Superintendent of Police.

Rajendran served the office of AIADMK Rajya Sabha MP between 1995 to 2001 and later joined DMK, where he served as the district treasurer. BUt he distanced himself from politics later on.
