Ex-MLA Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion and Umesh Kumar Arrested After Violent Pistol Incident in Roorkee
The ongoing conflict between former BJP MLA Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion and Independent MLA Umesh Kumar escalated into violence on Sunday. Both politicians, along with their supporters, reportedly attacked each other's offices in Roorkee. They allegedly brandished pistols and hurled abuses at those present. Haridwar SSP Pramendra Singh Doval confirmed that both Champion and Kumar have been detained following complaints from both parties.

Champion was apprehended at his Dehradun residence after the incident and transported to Haridwar. A viral video shows him in a police van departing from Nehru Colony police station. Speaking to reporters from the van, Champion claimed that Kumar had attacked his Landhaura mansion on Saturday night, prompting his reaction. "What he did today was in reaction to that," Champion stated.
Escalating Tensions and Social Media Exchanges
The animosity between the two MLAs is well-documented, with frequent clashes on social media platforms. Champion was taken to Ranipur police station, while Kumar was held at Roorkee police station. Authorities are considering revoking their pistol licenses and reassessing their security arrangements, according to Doval. "No one can be allowed to take the law into their own hands," he asserted.
On Sunday evening, Champion reportedly caused chaos at Kumar's Roorkee office with his supporters, firing several rounds into the air. Upon learning of this disturbance, Kumar and his supporters retaliated by storming Champion's office, creating a similar uproar. Kumar was allegedly seen inside Champion's office wielding a pistol and shouting abuses when police intervened.
Allegations and Viral Videos
Kumar accused Champion of using offensive language about him and his parents on social media two days prior. This led Kumar to confront Champion at his Landhaura residence on Saturday night, where he allegedly abused him and issued a challenge. A video of this confrontation has also gone viral online.
Champion's wife, Devyani Singh, claimed they reported Kumar's attack on their Landhaura home to the police at 10:28 pm on Saturday. She stated that when no action was taken, they felt compelled to respond to protect their honour. "It became necessary to react to save our honour," she explained.
Champion expressed his frustration over being detained after reacting to the alleged provocation by Kumar. "When I reacted, I was picked up. It is an injustice," he told reporters, vowing to fight against what he perceives as unfair treatment.
The situation remains tense as authorities continue their investigation into the violent altercations between the two political figures and their supporters.
