Every Passenger To Get Confirmed Ticket By 2027: Railways' Big Plans

The mad rush of passengers on railways during the Diwali season appears to have forced the authorities to take proactive measures to address the issue as the Indian Railways is contemplating a substantial expansion of its network to ensure confirmed tickets for every rail passenger, NDTV reported citing sources.

Sources have told the channel that the railways plan to add new tracks every year and it has plans to have a network of 4,000-5,000 kilometre tracks per year.

At this stage, 10,748 trains are being operated daily and the Centre aims to increase it to 13,000 trains every day.

Approximately 800 crore passengers undertake train journeys annually, and there is a proposal to enhance the passenger capacity to 1,000 crore.

The Railways is actively engaged in initiatives to reduce travel time, encompassing the expansion of tracks and augmenting train speed. To achieve this, enhancing acceleration and deceleration is imperative, enabling trains to stop and gain speed more efficiently, thereby minimizing travel duration.

As per an earlier statement from the Railways Ministry, the Indian Railways has registered a record revenue of Rs 2.40 lakh crore in the 2022-23 financial year, up by nearly Rs 49,000 crore from the previous year, according to a ministry statement on Monday.

In 2022-23, the freight revenue rose to Rs 1.62 lakh crore, a growth of nearly 15 per cent from the previous year.

Indian Railways' passenger revenue has registered an all-time high growth of 61 per cent to reach Rs 63,300 crore.
