Even Cleopatra did it... Maneka for soaps to be made of donkey milk

BJP MP, Maneka Gandhi advised farmers and people from rural areas to make soaps from the milk of donkeys and goats.

The comments come in the wake of reports stating that donkeys are going extinct because they are irrelevant in modern times. She was addressing a public meeting at Baldirai, Sultanpur, her Lok Sabha constituency.

She said, "there is a group of people in Ladakh who have noticed that the number of donkeys is reducing. Tell me for the last how may days have you not seen a donkey? Their number has been reduced. They have gone. The hob of a washerman is also extinct these days. They do not need the donkey anymore. Where will donkeys go then? But these people started milking the donkeys. They made soaps using the donkey's milk. It is believed that the soap made with donkey's milk is very useful to maintain the beauty of a woman."

She also went on to add that Cleopatra used to bathe with donkey's milk.

"There was a famous queen abroad called Cleopatra. She uses to bathe with donkey's milk. So those soaps made with donkey's milk are being sold in Delhi at a price of Rs 500 each. Why should we not make soap from goat's or donkey's milk? We shall choose something that can be done easily and comfortably, " Maneka Gandhi also said.

She also went on to advise the people to make and sell cow dung cakes. She said, "the trees are disappearing. Wood has become so expensive today. Even for a cremation, people are finding it expensive to use wood. It is better that we make long pellets of cow dung, and add aromatic ingredients to them. There should be an order that whoever dies will be cremated with cow dung. The cremation rituals will cost only Rs 1,500 as opposed to the RS 15,000 when wood is used."

She also said that she does not want people to make money on animals. No one has become rich until date, raising goats and cows. There will be hardly three doctors for 25 lakh people in the entire Sultanpur. If a cow or goat gets sick, so much money is lost there.
"That is why I am strongly against anyone indulging in rearing of goats or cows. It takes several years to train veterinarians and then there is also the problem of cattle getting stolen," the BJP MP said.
