Engineer Arrested For Bomb Threat Post On Anant Ambani’s Wedding

Mumbai police on Tuesday arrested a 32-year-old engineer for a social media post suggesting a bomb threat at Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's wedding. The police promptly launched an investigation into the post, which referenced a potential bomb threat at the wedding of billionaire Mukesh Ambani's son, Anant Ambani.

The accused, identified as Viral Shah, a resident of Vadodara, was apprehended by the Mumbai police's crime branch from his residence in Gujarat, according to a police official.

The social media post was made by a user with the handle @FFSFIR, who suggested that a bomb explosion at Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's wedding would have catastrophic global economic consequences. The post on X (formerly Twitter) read, "A shameless thought crept into my mind that if a bomb went off at Ambani's wedding, half the world would turn upside down. Trillions of dollars in one pin code."

Upon being alerted by a concerned citizen, police officials deemed the bomb threat a hoax but increased security measures around the wedding venue at the Bandra-Kurla Complex in Mumbai.

During the investigation, the social media user was traced to Vadodara. Subsequently, a team from the Mumbai crime branch was dispatched to the neighboring state, where they apprehended the accused. The accused is being brought to Mumbai for further investigation.

Anant Ambani, the youngest son of industrialist Mukesh Ambani, married Radhika Merchant, daughter of pharma tycoons Viren and Shaila Merchant. The star-studded event took place at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and was attended by celebrities, businessmen, billionaires, and top politicians from around the world on July 12. The wedding festivities, which lasted a week, were also attended by Mukesh Ambani's younger brother Anil Ambani and his wife Tina Ambani.
