Emergency Services In Uttar Pradesh Manage Over 51,000 Distress Calls During Diwali
During Diwali, the UP 112 emergency service managed over 51,000 distress situations across Uttar Pradesh. Most calls, totalling 41,066, were for police help. Additionally, there were 1,974 fire-related calls and 7,147 medical emergencies. Official data revealed that on Thursday alone, UP 112 received a total of 1,01,805 emergency calls.
Additional Superintendent of Police (UP 112) Mohini Pathak highlighted that UP 112 usually handles about 30,500 events daily requiring Police Response Vehicles (PRVs). "However, on Diwali, the total number of events rose to 51,796. This increase occurred as UP 112 deployed 825 communication officers, over 6,200 PRVs, and more than 34,000 officers and staff on duty," Pathak told PTI.

Emergency Calls Surge During Festivities
The data showed that out of the total events requiring PRV intervention on Diwali day, police assistance was needed in most cases. Fire incidents accounted for nearly two thousand calls while medical emergencies made up over seven thousand. This surge in demand highlights the critical role of emergency services during festive times.
On 'Chhoti Diwali', which was the day before Diwali, UP 112 managed to handle a significant number of distress calls too. They received a total of 89,297 calls and dispatched PRVs for assistance in 37,932 instances. This indicates a consistent need for emergency services during this festive period.
Enhanced Public Awareness
Pathak noted an increase in public awareness regarding UP 112 services. Citizens are now more informed about how to access these services quickly and efficiently during emergencies. This awareness has contributed to the rise in call volumes as people seek timely help.
The deployment strategy included over six thousand PRVs and thousands of officers to manage the increased demand effectively. The proactive approach ensured that citizens received prompt responses during emergencies throughout the state.
The efforts by UP 112 during Diwali underscore their commitment to public safety. By deploying additional resources and personnel strategically across Uttar Pradesh, they ensured swift responses to various emergencies reported by citizens.
