Dwarka Gets a Boost in Last-Mile Connectivity with Electric Scooters
The Delhi government is taking a significant step towards improving last-mile connectivity in Dwarka by introducing electric scooters. With plans to deploy thousands of these eco-friendly vehicles at 90 locations, the initiative aims to provide convenient and sustainable transportation options for residents.
In a bid to enhance last-mile connectivity in Dwarka, the Delhi government's transport department has once again floated a tender for deploying electric scooters in the sub-city. The government aims to place thousands of electric scooters at approximately 90 locations across Dwarka, thereby facilitating seamless travel for commuters.
Encouraging Last-Mile Connectivity
Delhi Transport Commissioner Ashish Kundra announced the tender on Thursday, inviting proposals from potential service providers for the deployment of high-speed and low-speed electric scooters. This initiative is primarily aimed at promoting last-mile connectivity between bus stops, metro stations, and other key destinations within the Dwarka sub-city.
Modified Bid Conditions
This marks the second time that the tender has been floated, as there were no bidders in the initial round. To address this challenge, the transport department has revised the bid conditions. Notably, the current tender exclusively invites bids for electric scooters, excluding cycles. This modification aims to attract potential bidders and ensure the successful implementation of the project.
Phased Deployment Plan
The project will be executed in three phases, with a total of 3,000 electric vehicles to be deployed at 90 high-footfall locations, including metro stations, bus depots, markets, malls, and educational institutions. Phase 1 will commence with the introduction of 1,500 vehicles, comprising both high-speed and low-speed electric scooters. Subsequently, Phase 2 will add a minimum of 750 vehicles, followed by the deployment of the remaining 750 vehicles in Phase 3. These vehicles will be available for long-term hiring or rental, providing commuters with flexible transportation options.
Project Timeline and Cost
The project is expected to be completed within a span of 18 months, with Phase 1 to be implemented in six months, Phase 2 in four months, and Phase 3 in another four months. Following the deployment phase, the project will enter a seven-year operations and maintenance period. The estimated cost of the project stands at Rs 18 crore.
The Delhi government's initiative to deploy electric scooters in Dwarka aligns with its commitment to sustainable transportation and improved last-mile connectivity. By providing convenient and eco-friendly travel options, the project aims to reduce traffic congestion, enhance air quality, and promote a greener transportation ecosystem in the city.
