Elections: Chhattisgarh officials to implement model code of conduct

Bastar, Oct 8: Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Kujur said,"with the announcement of poll schedules, district election officers have been directed to implement the model code of conduct."

One of the most-maoist infested regions in India, the elections are awaited with much anticipation and apprehension. The 18 Maoist-affected constituencies of the state's southern region is likely to witness elections in the first phase on November 11, while the rest of the regions will go on polls in the second phase on November 19.

Kujur further added," Eighteen constituencies in Bastar, Bijapur, Kondagaon, Sukma, Kondagaon, Kanker and Rajnandgaon will go to polls in the first phase."

Gazetted notification for the first phase will be released on October 18, with the nominations being filed on the same day. The final date submitting the nomination is, however, set for October 25. The scrutiny of nominations would be completed only by the next day.

Contestants willing to withdraw their names can do so by October 28, way ahead of the polling on November 11.

The gazette notification for the second phase will be issued on October 25.

The last date for filing nomination for the second phase will be November 1 and scrutiny will be completed by the next day.

Adding to this, Kujur said,"contestants may withdraw their candidatures until November 4, after which 72 constituencies would go to polls on Novemeber 19."
