New Delhi, April 21: Distancing herself and the party, Smriti Irani on Monday, April 21 refused to link the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with Praveen Togadia's controversial comment.

Reacting against Togadia's reported remark on Muslims at Hindu areas in the country, Irani said, "Togadia's comments cannot be attributed to the party."

Meanwhile, Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and the Minority Affairs Minister Rehman Khan lashed out at Togadia's for his hate speech. While Chavan said Togadia "is back to his old tricks," Khan said, "RSS wants to take control of nation which is dangerous. Election Commission should take action against people like Giriraj and Togadia. Why's there no action?"

Praveen Togadia, president of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), isn't new to controversies. In the latest, Togadia kicked a hornet's nest when he said on Saturday that Muslims shouldn't be allowed to buy property in Hindu areas.

The statement was made while Togadia, along with VHP and Bajranj Dal members, staged a protest outside a house owned by a Muslim businessman in Bhavnagar, Gujarat.

Togadia gave the resident 48 hours to move out of the house, which if not complied with, he suggested taking control of the house and putting a Bajranj Dal board on it. The statement has created furore across the country. However, BJP and Togadia himself has said that the statement was fabricated.
