Election Commission Criticised by Shiv Sena and NCP SP for Ignoring Opposition Questions on Electoral Roll Revisions
Shiv Sena UBT and NCP SP have accused the Election Commission of being unresponsive to opposition queries about electoral roll revisions in Bihar. Aaditya Thackeray expressed concerns over the commission's neutrality and its ability to ensure fair elections.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has been criticised by Shiv Sena UBT and NCP SP for its handling of the electoral roll revision in Bihar. They claim the ECI has not adequately addressed concerns raised by opposition parties. Aaditya Thackeray, a leader from Sena UBT, expressed doubts about the commission's neutrality, suggesting it follows directives from higher authorities.

In a statement on X, Thackeray questioned the ECI's ability to conduct fair elections. He stated, "The Fraud @ECISVEEP proved today in its press conference that it is absolutely clueless about responding to the pointed questions asked by the political parties and the media. This is the institution that has ensured that India is kept away from free and fair elections. Can we trust this institution with such bogus officials to hold a fair process of elections?"
Electoral Roll Revision Concerns
Chief Election Commissioner Gynaesh Kumar defended the revision process, emphasising its goal to address voter list issues. He dismissed claims of double voting and vote theft as unfounded. Kumar stressed that all involved parties are committed to ensuring transparency in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
Despite these assurances, opposition parties remain sceptical. They accuse the ECI of evading direct answers and failing to address specific allegations. NCP SP spokesperson Clyde Crasto remarked on this evasiveness, stating, "The Whataboutery by the Election Commission of India makes one believe more and more in the questions raised on them."
Opposition's Allegations
The INDIA bloc parties have launched a Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar, protesting against what they describe as "vote-chori." They argue that misinformation is being spread about the electoral roll revision. The opposition believes this misinformation is being used to undermine their efforts.
Crasto further commented on the ECI's approach, suggesting it would eventually have to confront these issues directly. "Instead of replying point to point, the ECI is going around in circles and trying to show that nothing is wrong in the system," he said. He predicted that this strategy would backfire, forcing the commission to reveal more information.
The ongoing debate highlights significant tensions between India's election authorities and opposition parties. As Bihar prepares for upcoming polls, these disputes underscore broader concerns about electoral integrity and transparency in India.
