Eknath Shinde Is 'Upset' On Losing CM's Post: Ramdas Athawale

Talking to the media outside Paliament ahead of the winter session, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale on Tuesday shared his views on delay in government formation in Maharashtra. Union Minister Athawale revealed that everything is not well between the Mahayuti (Maharashtra Allaince) and Eknath Shinde is 'upset' on losing the Chief Minister's chair. It has been reported that BJP will replace Shinde with senior leader and deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis.

Athawale suggested that Mr Shinde consider accepting this position or another prominent role within Mahayuti.

Eknath Shinde Is Upset On Losing CM s Post Ramdas Athawale

The swearing-in ceremony for Chief Minister of Mahaarshtra has been scheduled for Thursday, December 5. BJP's 132 newly elected MLAs have elected Fadnavis as leader of the legislative body, and a final announcement on CM's name is anticipated by tomorrow.

In 2022, despite having more MLAs, BJP allowed Eknath Shinde to form Government is state and asked Devendra Fadnavis to serve as his deputy.

Leadership Dynamics in Maharashtra

Mr Athawale pointed out that Mr Shinde should follow Mr Fadnavis' example by accepting a Deputy CM post. If unwilling, he could assume a leadership role within Mahayuti or join the central government. This suggestion comes amid Mr Shinde's dissatisfaction over being denied the Chief Minister position.

In recent days, Shiv Sena leaders have emphasized that their electoral victory was achieved under Mr Shinde's leadership. They believe the BJP should acknowledge this fact. However, Mr Shinde has stated he will not hinder government formation and has left the final decision to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
BJP's Strategic Moves

The BJP has made it clear that they will not relinquish the top post this time around. After supporting Mr Shinde as Chief Minister following his rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray's government, they are now firm on their stance. The BJP holds 132 seats in Mahayuti's 230-seat mandate, while Sena has 57 and NCP 41.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is reportedly backing the BJP, leaving Mr Shinde with limited options. This support further strengthens BJP's position in claiming the Chief Ministership. The party believes their candidate should be Devendra Fadnavis, although no official announcement has been made yet.
